What does it mean to be productive as a musician?

There’s no one answer to this question as it depends on each individual musician and what their goals and objectives are. However, in general, productivity for a musician can be defined as creating, rehearsing, and performing music efficiently and effectively.

For me, productivity means I’m spending less time researching and more time taking action.

Some examples of actions that a musician can take are:

  • doing a specific musical exercise for 15 minutes that helps to internalize the sound of an interval
  • compose one measure in a key that you’re not familiar with
  • send an email to your mailing list informing them about an upcoming show

There are a variety of software programs and planners (Trello, Things, Asana) available that can help musicians be more productive. Depending on how you use these apps, some can be helpful with the process of planning your next solo album, others have features that may be more useful for organizing your practice sessions and, and others can help with managing your musical career.

But, when it comes to productivity, no assistant can beat Amazing Marvin. Amazing Marvin uses psychologically proven methods, actual strategies, to get you in the zone and keep you there for as long as you need, so you can beat procrastination in a way that works for you. There are literally over 100 features/strategies that you can turn on and off to tackle your next big project!

No other productivity app provides the features that Marvin does.

Cons of using Amazing Marvin

No productivity software is perfect. Here are some things to consider before taking the plunge with Marvin.

  • Mobile version is behind compared to how well the Desktop version functions. But, if you primarily work out of the desktop, which a lot of musicians do, this isn’t that much of an issue.
  • There is a monthly cost.
  • This app isn’t for working with teams yet (I hope they bake that in some day). So if collaboration is important to you, this could be a deal-breaker.

Conclusion

Productivity isn’t something that you’re born with, it’s something you develop with positive habits and the right support systems. You can think of Amazing Marvin as a support system that acts as scaffolding for you to build the habits you need to excel in your musical pursuits.
